Growing Pains: How the Early Christian Community Took Shape (350)
This class will present a history of the Church from the Post Apostolic Period to Constantine. It will focus on how history has contributed to the diverse forms of the Church today. Topics will include: the Roman Empire as geographical context for early Christian evangelization; persecution, the theology of Martyrdom, the blessings and the challenges of rapid growth; the rise of Christian literature in defense of faith; threats from within, or the major rival claimants to the Christian tradition; and glimpses of women in early ministry. The issues raised throughout the period covered should be of interest to members of all religions. Our class leader Harry Sikorski, is a retired Catholic priest.
